Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions about your exhaust? We've got answers. If you don't see your question here, give us a call.
How long does a muffler replacement take?
Most muffler replacements can be completed in 1-2 hours, depending on your vehicle and whether any additional parts need to be replaced. We always provide a time estimate before starting work.
How much does a new muffler cost?
Muffler costs vary based on your vehicle and the type of muffler you choose. Economy replacements start around $150-250, premium stainless steel options run $250-400, and performance mufflers are $300-500. This includes parts and labor. We provide exact quotes before starting any work.
What causes catalytic converters to fail?
Several factors can cause converter failure: engine misfires that send unburned fuel into the converter, oil or coolant contamination from engine leaks, physical damage from road debris, normal wear over high mileage, and using leaded fuel in vehicles requiring unleaded.
How do I know if my catalytic converter is bad?
Signs of a failing converter include: check engine light (often with specific O2 sensor codes), sulfur smell (like rotten eggs), poor engine performance or acceleration, unusually high exhaust temperatures, and failed emissions tests. If you notice any of these, bring your vehicle in for diagnosis.
Do you offer warranties on your work?
Yes! Economy muffler replacements come with a 1-year warranty. Premium replacements include a limited lifetime warranty. Custom exhaust builds also have a lifetime warranty. All parts we install are covered by manufacturer warranties as well.
Do you offer shuttle service?
Yes, we offer free shuttle service within Franklin for customers dropping off their vehicles. We can also arrange rides to nearby areas like Brentwood and Cool Springs. Just let us know when you schedule your appointment.
Can you help with Tennessee emissions testing?
Absolutely. We can diagnose and repair emissions-related issues, including catalytic converter problems, O2 sensor failures, and exhaust leaks. We ensure your vehicle is ready for the emissions test and can often get you in quickly before your deadline.
What types of vehicles do you service?
We service most domestic and import vehicles including cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans. From everyday commuters to light-duty trucks. If you have a specific vehicle question, give us a call and we can confirm.
What causes rattling sounds from my exhaust?
Rattling can come from several sources: loose heat shields, damaged muffler internals, rust holes, loose exhaust clamps, or broken exhaust hangers. We can quickly diagnose the source and recommend the right repair.
Is it safe to drive with an exhaust leak?
Small leaks aren't immediately dangerous but should be repaired soon. However, if you smell exhaust fumes inside the vehicle, that's a safety concern—exposure to carbon monoxide can be harmful. Have any leaks inspected and repaired promptly.
